Thai yoga massage is a beautiful, ancient holistic therapy that has been a known practice for around 2500 years. The massage is carried out on a comfortable mat on the floor and uses a system of stretching, acupressure, compression and dynamic techniques.
The massage is carried out fully clothed too, making it accessible to all including anyone who isn't comfortable to be unclothed for massage.
TYM also works on the 5 yoga principles of Mindfulness, Good Posture, Yoga, Natural Effort & Metta - meaning loving kindness. My personal experience of the massage is that I felt cared for, more at peace and connected, my body felt lighter and more at ease with stored phsyical and emotional tensions released. I loved it so much that I decided I wanted to train to do it and bring this amazing practice to others.
Not only is this a great massage for the physical body it also works on the energy of the body or Prana/energy flow. Read more below on prana.... or skip to the other benefits listed :-)
Thai yoga massage has its roots in India and the traditions of Yoga and Ayurveda and was brought to Thailand around 2000 years ago. In Eastern philosophy the body is made up of an interconnected web of energy pathways and through these pathways flows prana or life energy. Prana is the driving force behind all life, when it flows well so do we. It is thought to be the life force that supports and maintains the vital functions of our bodies. However, when prana is blocked we can experience issues in the body that can manifest as fatigue, chronic illness and tension, depression, feeling stuck, low motivation and digestive issues to name a few. Thai yoga massage aims to stimulate a good flow of prana through the body. By massaging and moving the body the energy pathways are freed, helping to bring a deeper sense of balance, harmony, and health.
